Join us for Mirage: Opera Atelier's 2012 Versailles Gala

Armide is a haunting tale about unlikely lovers from two different worlds – he is a Christian knight leading his army to victory in the Crusades, and she is a Muslim warrior princess, fiercely determined to protect her homeland. Their mystical, moving tale has inspired the theme for Opera Atelier’s gala this year, and guests will be enchanted by the sensual charms of Mirage: The 2012 Versailles Gala.

This event, set to be the largest and most spectacular in OA's history, will be held at the Evergreen Brick Works, which The Globe and Mail deemed "a cultural beacon for Torontonians and tourists alike." BlogTO wrote, "The authentic character of the Brick Works could single-handedly put all of Toronto's vanilla banquet halls to shame." This historic site is the perfect landscape for a special event with an artistic flair.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, featuring scrumptious hors d'ouevres, an alluring silent auction, and a stunning $20,000 raffle item from Tiffany & Co. Award-winning Chef Neal Noble of Noble Culinary will host a marvelous feast, featuring Moroccan seared beef tenderloin, accompanied by an array of mouth-watering delights. Dazzling performances by OA artists will entertain you, and our live auction will treat you to luxurious items and experiences with acclaimed auctioneer Jay Mandarino. Performances by the stars of Armide, Colin Ainsworth and Peggy Kriha Dye.

We look forward to sharing this spectacular evening with you. Stay tuned for more information.

Opera Atelier

Opera Atelier holds a unique place in the North American theatre community, producing opera, ballet and drama from the 17th and 18th centuries. These productions draw upon the aesthetics and ideals of the period, featuring soloists of international acclaim, period ballet, original instruments, elaborate stage decor, exquisite costumes and an imaginative energy that sets Opera Atelier apart.

Opera Atelier is not in the business of “reconstruction”, rather, each production is a new creative effort and takes its own place in history. Opera Atelier strives to create productions that would have been recognized and respected in their own time while providing a thrilling theatrical experience for modern audiences.

Under the direction of founders Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, Opera Atelier has been acclaimed throughout Canada, in Houston, Cleveland, New York, Stuttgart, Halle, Bremen, London (BBC Proms), Paris, Montreux, Citta di Castello, Singapore, throughout Japan and, most recently, in Seoul, Korea.  Opera Atelier has collaborated with some of early music’s most distinguished artists including Andrew Parrott, Trevor Pinnock, Hervé Niquet, Marc Minkowski and many others.
